After the service we were guided through the cemetery that
is on the same property as the church and were shown the graves of so many of
our extended family. It was a real history
lesson. After, we went across the street
and up a block to the Anglican Church and saw a few more graves in that
cemetery too.
We went back to Nonie’s and had Mary Brown’s chicken for lunch with them in their wonderful back yard. It was a great day to have a bit of a picnic in the yard.
We met Aunt Maude’s sons, Robert and Bill and
some of their family. What a great time
is was. We were sorry not to be able to
have Barbara and Ben with us, but it wasn’t to be. We enjoyed our family time and watching Bill
and Barbara’s grandchildren play on the slip and slide. They had such a great time in the beautiful
big yard. It is so fascinating to me to have
travelled all the way across the country and you feel like you are home.
We drove back to the inn ready to do laundry and there was a
nice surprise waiting for us! So we were
able to take it easy and walk around the bay to a restaurant across from the
inn for dinner. Holyrood has a sign at
the entrance saying that this is the squid capital of Canada. Well they may have a lot of it, but they sure
don’t know how to cook it. We had some
at the Beach Cottage Restaurant and it was the nastiest stuff ever! Olive Garden, you have nothing to be worried
about – keep on making it the way you do – there is no competition here.
It was a lovely evening stroll though, around the bay to and
from on the boardwalk and a lovely evening to do it! Tomorrow we are off to Cape St. Mary’s to see
more of the quaint fishing villages that are so much a part of Newfoundland.
