TRAINS, BOATS AND 12,000 STEPS

Staying at this Hotel, as advertised, breakfast is included.   So a couple of bruised apples, some under ripe bananas and a few overcooked Pillsbury croissants and a very small cup of coffee.  I must say  the coffee tasted not too bad but the 4 oz cup just barely gave us the fuel we needed to get out of the chair and on our way!  That was ok, we made up for it with the lunch we ate in town.

Today being a beautiful warm, sunny and perfect day, it was a great day to go on the London Eye, so that is what we did!  Took the tube into town and then walked around for a bit before our ticketed time.  Brenda gave me a whirl wind tour of Westminster - the area around the Parliament Buildings and Big Ben.  We arrived there right at 12:00 noon – but Ben didn’t bong!  It is supposed to bong, but I sure didn’t hear it.  I really wanted to hear bonging. Oh well, we saw the Parliament Buildings, Westminster Abbey, The Supreme Court Building and too many statues to mention.  However I did find it interesting that there was a statue of Abe Lincoln outside of the Supreme Court Building.  I guess they didn’t have any honest Brits to commemorate in a statue.

The London Eye was a great way to look at all of London.  It was really slow moving and completely enclosed so the height didn’t bother me.  We saw Buckingham Palace, St James Park, The Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral and the area we walked around earlier.  360 degree view of flat London.

The river tour that was included took us up and down the Thames under some of the 35 bridges that cross the Thames in London.  And we can’t even get 1 new crossing to replace the aging George Massey Tunnel in Delta.  From the boat some of the sights we saw were: The Parliament Buildings, Scotland Yard, a peekaboo view of St Paul’s Cathedral, The Globe Theatre and the famous Tower of London Bridge.  It was a good look from the water on a clear day.

So after that it was time to go home.  We stopped along the way to pick up some water and other goodies and are in for the night.  We certainly didn’t need dinner after our wonderful burgers at lunch today – but I probably didn’t need the salted caramel and chocolate cheesecake that I bought to have with my latte either.  I only ate half of it – tomorrow is another day!

What a great number of attractions to fit into one day. You two seem to have hit upon an ideal day for any traveller. Sorry to hear that you didn't get any bonging although you did keep your ears open. Sigh! Perhaps a YouTube search and then some closed eyes might suffice.

I am sure there is more to follow. Be careful of overloading your plate! Those airplane seats are only so wide! Practise British restraint! When in Rome - no London do as the Londoners do.
