Today started off slowly just as we were needing it to. While Brenda went to get her phone looked at,
I went across the street to the drugstore to perhaps get some drops for my poor
eye. It is really looking nasty and
feeling a bit irritated. The pharmacist
said there really was nothing to help so I went back to meet up with Brenda and
we went into town again. We visited the
Marks and Spensers Store and then just ambled around. Had a pub lunch and a shandy and just set off
on no particular route. We wandered up
near Hyde Park and saw the beautiful district of Mayfair.
We happened upon a lovely little park in the middle of Mayfair. Very quiet with some lovely gardens and lots of benches. It was a great place to spend a bit of time. We walked through the small park and then into an area with lots of embassy buildings. The one that stuck out the most to me was the one with the Ukrainian Flag. There were also plaques on some of the old buildings indicating important past residents. We saw a plaque that was a previous home of the BG’s and a few important past government officials.
I enjoyed the flowers and fancy doors of these
residences. Many wealthy people must
live around here. Funny how just looking
at the outside façade of these grand old apartment buildings are old plaster
and bricks, I am sure the insides are spectacular, spacious and beautifully
decorated. Location…location location
and being in this area of London, well this clearly is prime location.
So now it was time to go back to our hotel and pack up for the next leg of our journey. We are off to Durham in the morning. It will be a bus ride of about 6 hours and a chance to see some of the countryside. I am really looking forward to seeing something without walking miles.
Had a shandy on the way home at the Blackbird Pub and this neat old building had a pull chain toilet! Although probably not on the must see list of most people I know...this was a bit of highlight. I can't imagine all the work that goes into making this tiniest of rooms glisten and gleam and what fun to pull the chain!
The next post will be from our new home away from home
called “The Shoes” a bed and breakfast in Durham.
Talk again soon!

Your sunshine has come our way but is just disappearing as large clouds begin to arrive.
I’ll bet sine if those beautiful houses belong(ed?) to Russian oligarchs. In Vancouver they have just towed away some protesters’ cars for keeps as they had been confiscated during an illegal barricades as the owners had stopped traffic on a highway. Yeah!
Not much more. Looking forward to words from your new digs.
Lots of love,
Brian
