We arrived at our destination
around 11:00 (or 8:30 our time). We were
warmly greeted by Colette at the front door or our accommodation for the next 5
nights. The house, built in 1884, has 3 bedrooms upstairs and we are occupying 2 of them. I sure hope the other sleeping guests were
not awakened by us as luggage and backpacks in hand, we ascended the narrow,
shallow and low rise creaky wooden staircase … and when we got to the turn, my backpack
knocked the enamelled metal pitcher over in the basin. Thank God it wasn’t porcelain … oh well, if that
didn’t wake them up, then they were deeper sleepers than I am. Guess we will find out in the morning if we
get some angry glares.

So now we are up, showered and
smelling bacon. Breakfast is at 8:00 and
we will be able to enjoy whatever our host has prepared for us. I know she was getting the bread ready for
baking in the morning. This is the life –
we better do lots of walking while we are here.
Newfoundland promised to be full of fabulous tastes and amazing sights.
So for breakfast we had a touton. Newfy saying "eat touton or go withouton" These are small bread dough balls flattened and served with a molasses and butter syrup. It was really good. We also had some lovey bacon, orange mango juice an individual egg, spinach and parmesan cooked in a fancy ironware ramekin, some fruit, fresh rolls and homemade jam and then chocolate chocolate muffin (that I took in a baggie and saved it for later in the day). Colette is a wonderful cook and loves to see others enjoying the products of her labour.
Oh oh….I just looked out the window and saw the other guests with their suitcases heading towards the car… hopefully not because of the noisy neighbours!
I will finish part two of Day 1 while you are all asleep and I am up at 7:00 tomorrow....
Til then
